Globalisation and economic integration has further internationalised higher education, but to date, there has been little attention paid to the mobility of academics.
Using unique data from a recent survey of about 10,000 Indian academics worldwide, authors Mathias Czaika and Sorana Toma examine the drivers and dynamics of international academic mobility.
They find there is a strong importance of past career steps in facilitating future career opportunities and mobility for Indian academics. For instance, excellent grades in high-school and/or international experience as a student seem to be pre-conditions for later academic employment abroad.
