Phase 3 of this project has begun, with qualitative interviews of returned migrants and migrants’ families in selected regions in Brazil, Morocco and Ukraine

Phase 3 fieldwork for this project started in July 2011. The semi-structured interviews are being carried out either with migrants returned from the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal or the UK, and/or with family members of migrants away in these four countries.

IMI leads on collaborative research in Ukraine; Erasmus University Rotterdam heads research in Morocco, and IGOT-UL leads the Brazilian research – but the research carried out in all the origin countries will use jointly developed research methods and will assess migration to and return from all four destination countries.

Lead local researchers have been selected and contracted in each origin country and these have in turn hired teams of research assistants with qualitative research experience. After initial training, fieldwork is under way and is anticipated to run until September 2011.
