IMI recruiting for a Senior Research Officer for project on Migrants in Countries in Crisis

The International Migration Institute seeks to recruit a Research Officer to work on a research project on Migrants in Countries in Crisis. This EU-funded project is being conducted in collaboration with the Vienna-based International Centre for Migration Policy Development. IMI will be responsible for managing up to four African case studies in this project (likely South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic and Libya but subject to confirmation).

The postholder will play a central role in all stages of the research including refining the conceptual framework and research design, conducting fieldwork, data analysis and writing up findings. S/he will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of the MICIC project within IMI and in collaboration with ICMPD.

This post requires: a doctorate in a relevant social science discipline; a strong research and publication record; knowledge of research and policy issues in the field of migration and experience of research in Africa; demonstrable experience of qualitative data analysis using NVivo (or equivalent) and quantitative data analysis using SPSS or Stata. Excellent communication skills are essential; fluency in French and/or Arabic is desirable. The postholder must be willing to travel to the different regions of Africa involved in the case studies. The post is to start as soon as possible, and is fixed-term until 31 March 2017. The position will be supervised by IMI Director, Oliver Bakewell.
