About this event

This documentary reveals the economic power of Caribbean transnational communities, showcasing the experiences of diasporic peoples who straddle the dual worlds of Caribbean homelands and global cities as tourists, travellers and entrepreneurs.

The documentary came out of a research project funded by the International Development Research Centre: 'Strategic Opportunities in Caribbean Migration: Brain Circulation, Diasporic Tourism and Investment'. The research, undertaken by the Shridath Ramphal Centre (University of the West Indies, Barbados) and the Centre for Trade Policy and Law (Carleton University, Canada) was published in the Canadian Foreign Policy Journal (2011: 17.2). The film looks at the diasporic tourism and investment flows of four Caribbean countries and counterpart global cities – Jamaica and London; Guyana and Toronto; Suriname and Amsterdam; and The Dominican Republic and New York.
