Researchers from the Mobile Welfare project are looking for students at master’s level (preferably in the field of social sciences, political sciences, or international development and migration studies) living in Oslo who can conduct in-depth interviews with Turkish migrants living in Oslo.
Job description
The job duties consist of recruiting informants, conducting interviews and transcribing/translating. In total, 8 interviews with Turkish migrants need to be conducted. More information about the different profiles will be communicated in due course to the interviewers. Based on a guide that will be provided, each interview will last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. The interviewer is required to provide a full transcription in English and a brief summary (around one page). Lastly, some of the questions of the interview will have to be entered into a database.
Requirements
- Some previous experience in interviewing and transcribing is preferred;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability to communicate and write proficiently in English and Turkish;
- Availability to conduct interviews between May and August, 2016
Description of the project
The Mobile Welfare project aims to understand the role of welfare systems in destination and origin countries for migration patterns within and towards Europe. The project addresses three research questions: How and to what extent do welfare systems affect mobility patterns in Europe? To what extent and how do perceptions of access to welfare arrangements in origin and destination countries shape migration decisions? What role does transferability of welfare accounts play in mobility across Europe? In total 7 countries are involved in the research (Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the UK, Norway and Turkey). The research project is funded by the NORFACE Welfare State Futures Programme.
Remuneration
Full training will be provided to the interviewers by IMI researchers working on the Mobile Welfare project. The work is paid at a fixed rate of NOK 3000 per interview which includes recruitment of the interviewee, interview, transcription into English, a brief summary and the data entry of some of the responses.
