The workshop and study tour for the Transatlantic Dialogues on Migration and Development issues took place in Zacatecas, Mexico earlier last month

The event aimed to facilitate a transatlantic North/South exchange among policy makers and scholars and to combine discussion between actors and direct field observation of the differential impacts of migration.

Scholars, policy makers and civil society representatives from the EU, Morocco, US and Mexico participated in a study tour to Mexican migrant sending regions, and visited migrants' associations and sites where projects funded by migrants have been implemented.

After the tour, a workshop took place to discuss and compare findings, and to discuss the effectiveness of current policies and possible policy alternatives. At the end of the workshop, recommendations for policy and research were formulated.

Participants included key policy makers, civil society actors and scholars from Morocco, Mexico, the US and the EU.

This project is supported by a grant from the German Marshall Fund of the United States as part of its Immigration and Integration Key Institutions grant programme.
