IMI recruiting for a Research Officer to work on a research project on ‘Mobile Welfare’.

The International Migration Institute seeks to recruit a Research Officer to work on a research project on ‘Mobile Welfare’. The Mobile Welfare project is funded by NORFACE and is coordinated by the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) in the Netherlands. Working in collaboration with the IMI team and other project partners, the post-holder will coordinate the ‘work package’ related to the way how perceptions of access to welfare arrangements in origin and destination countries shape migration aspirations and decisions. The successful candidate will prepare literature reviews and scoping studies, conduct qualitative data collection, the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and disseminate the project findings through academic publications (joint and single-authored) for peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, and through working papers and websites and other electronic media.

This post requires: a doctorate in a relevant social science discipline (or near completion of doctorate); a good research and publication record relative to career stage; previous research or demonstrable interest in migration issues (particularly those related to migration aspirations and welfare or social protection in origin countries); demonstrable experience of fieldwork, including qualitative methods; demonstrable experience of qualitative data analysis using Nvivo (or equivalent) and familiarity with quantitative data analysis using SPSS or Stata, and excellent communication skills in English. The post is to start as soon as possible, and is tenable until 31 January 2018. The position will be supervised by the IMI Director, Oliver Bakewell.
