Applications are invited for an Associate Professorship of Migration and Development. The post is full-time, and subject to completion of a successful review, permanent. Associate Professors may be granted the title of full Professor by the University, depending on merit. For a candidate with the appropriate level of distinction, ODID will put forward, at the time of appointment, a case to the University. The appointment will be made in association with a non-tutorial fellowship at Wolfson College. This post is tenable from early in the 2016/17 academic year.
The successful applicant will take a leading role in cementing and enhancing Oxford’s global reputation in the field of migration and development, and play a part in shaping the broader intellectual agenda of migration research within the department and beyond. The postholder will teach on the MSc in Migration Studies, MPhil in Development Studies, and other Master’s degrees within ODID, as well as supervising doctoral students in the department. S/he will also be a member of the International Migration Institute (IMI), a constituent unit of the Oxford Department of International Development, and a leading academic research centre on migration issues in the world.
The successful candidate will be an established scholar of international standing with an outstanding publication record and a doctorate in international development, anthropology, international relations, politics, geography, sociology, or a cognate discipline in the field of migration studies, with a strong focus on the interplay between development and migration and on origin country; teaching experience in areas related to migration studies at postgraduate level, including thesis supervision and experience of academic assessment and administration; a strong track record of securing competitive external funding for research and managing research projects and teams; and an interest in policy and practice in the fields of migration studies, development studies and related areas.
